Women Education Empowerment

Under this movement, Utkarsh undertakes following activities:

Utkarsh Nirali Pads

We have launched the unique, eco-friendly and reusable cloth sanitary napkins or we call it “Utkarsh Nirali Pads”. The commercial disposable sanitary napkins contain hazardous chemicals that affect the health of women. In addition, these napkins end up in landfills, creating environmental pollution harming both animals and humans. We have tried to highlight this issue in our newsletter and have also advocated the reasons to switch to cloth napkins.

These napkins are made by women’s in rural and tribal districts and we distribute them at free costs to schools and other organizations. Our aim is to protect the health of women through safe menstrual hygiene practices. The use of cloth napkins also addresses environmental protection reducing the number of disposable sanitary napkins that end up in landfills.

We also advocate ‘plastic ban’ towards which we regularly conduct awareness programs where we organize street plays that throw light on the menace of plastic use. We also distribute ‘Utkarsh cloth bags’ which are made by rural and tribal women as a part of the ‘women’s empowerment’ movement of Utkarsh.

Savitribai Phule Woman’s Empowerment Center

We have set up tailoring classes for tribal women in Wada, Palghar District of Maharashtra and for women from poor financial background in Mulund, Mumbai. In Wada, nearly 400 women have been employed since September 2015. They are earning more than Rs.5000 per month. We hope to spread the essence of this program to other rural areas in the states as well.
